When shipping a package overseas, you want to make sure you have all the details just right. International shipping to France can be expensive, as with all overseas shipping. So you need all of the information ahead of time so you don't end up shipping something that is prohibited, or have something else go wrong that makes it so your package does not get to where you need it to go.
Whether you are sending a care package to friends or family in France, or sending something for your business, here is what you need to know. You can always double-check with the USPS website.
Some of these first restrictions could probably go without saying, but we will mention them anyways for good measure. No sending firearms, ammunition, human remains, urns, live plants and animals, radioactive material, or cigarette lighters that use butane gas. These are obvious things to leave out due to safety and health reasons.
Some of the following restrictions are a little less obvious. France does not allow you to send imitation pearls made with lead salts. So if you are splitting up your grandmother's estate and sending some jewelry over to your family in France, you may want to do a little research first, before sending any jewelry with pearls. Also, if you are sending books written in French but not printed in France, make sure that the publisher is clearly printed in the books.
Other restrictions have to do with food. Often foods can be sent if they have the appropriate certifications or are under certain weights. For more details, check out the USPS website.
