Crater Houston offers Advice

Posted on Thu, Feb 09, 2012

When seeking out a company to build a custom crate for you we would like to offer the following suggestions:

Ask for a list of the type of items the company has crated in the past.

Does the company you are looking at usually deal in high value fragile items?

Can they build reusable crates?

Can they crate both sculptures and medical equipment?

Do they offer full value coverage during shipping?

Do they offer pick up service for the item that is being crated?

How long has the current owner been building custom crates?

Do they offer to box or palletize something for you that may not necessarily need the expense of a crate?

Have they asked if the crate will be shipped domestically or internationally. Heat treated wood is needed for international shipping?

Are they willing to discuss any blocking and bracing of the item inside the crate?

Have the discussed the protective Styrofoam, wood, bubble or peanuts needed inside the crate to cushion the item you are shipping?

If the item can be shipped without a crate, but blanket wrapped on a moving truck, have they offered this option to you?

Are they willing to provide you with a quote up front, before they build the crate for you?

If you need more advice for selecting a custom crate builder, please do not hesitate to call us at pack n send at 713 266 1450.

You will need ask if they can supply the wood for both domestic and international shipping.

Can they build reusable crates?

Do they have experience with both large and small items.

Have they crated delicate or valuable items in the past? Be sure and ask for examples of these items.
