Through History and Design Conception: How to Ship a Kitchen

how_to_ship_a_kitchen_set_2Freight shipping might be the perfect way to get your kitchen set from one place to another because freight shipping involves packing items, placing them on pallets, and delivering those things to a new destination.

The kitchen, specifically is quite a fascinating place, usually filled with everything from family history to brand new shiny appliances,  most of these items are in your kitchen in order to make your life easier, tastier, and more comforting.

The style of the kitchen has changed through history, but the need for its functionality has not. See, This Old House’s articleThe American Kitchen Through the Ages, which recounts a bit of kitchen history from the 1920’s into today.

In the 1920’s, the Hoosier Cabinet was a must-have for every kitchen, since built-in cabinets had not yet been widely established. In the 1930’s, the ice box moved into most kitchens and in the 1950’s, kitchen islands became popular. In the 1970’s, microwave ovens became ever so popular. In the 1980’s, the first celebrity cooks made importance of the kitchen's appearance, and the demand for things like beautiful yet functional shelving and appliances increased.

Your kitchen may have any number of these things, but likely has built-in cabinets in place of a Hoosier Cabinet and a refrigerator/freezer unit in place on an ice box. Maybe you have a breakfast nook with a table and four chairs and a bench under a bay window which lets in perfect light for your Saturday morning coffee. Maybe you have an antique cookbook shelf or a set of bar stools that you searched a century for.

Maybe you are a homemade chef with piles of unique kitchen equipment and the hands to use them properly, but maybe you are moving and you want to take all of your things with you.

“You don't have to be a chef or even a particularly good cook to experience proper kitchen alchemy: the moment when ingredients combine to form something more delectable than the sum of their parts. Fancy ingredients or recipes not required; simple, made-up things are usually even better.” ~Erin Morgenstern

Doesn’t the same hold true for kitchen design? It doesn’t matter if your kitchen meets the requirements stated on magazine pages. The moment when your kitchen belongings combine to make it yours, the fanciful is set aside as merely opinion and your kitchen, made-up of your things, is yours.
