Shipping furniture can be a terrible headache if you take it on alone. Admittedly, it is difficult enough to get our furniture from one corner of the room to another, not to mention trying to take it to a new home or office or move it across the country or international waters. Yet among the things in our homes and offices, furniture can carry immense weight, literally and metaphorically speaking, since furniture is not only often heavy and bulky, but the tangibility of relaxation (couches, love seats, mattresses), the reliability of organization (desks, filing cabinets, bookshelves), and the visual reminder of refinement (chandeliers, dining tables and chair sets).

Shipping furniture  to another city?  Small load moving  verses  freighting your furniture.

How should one go about moving furniture from one place to another? First, we must discuss the decision to use a traditional moving company (small load moving) versus freight shipping. Either way, the furniture will be moved. Yet there are some differences worth noting. A traditional moving company will blanket wrap your furniture for protection during a move. A freight company will wrap your furniture and protect it during shipping on a freight truck.  Consider both options when you are moving furniture to a new city.

To ship overseas, special handling is required, as the furniture has a much greater distance to travel. Twenty or 40 foot containers are used for this type of moving. Shipping furniture by the cubic meter is also an option.

When American settlers brought furniture from England, perhaps they used sheets and ropes and barricades to ensure safe travel. No longer must we succumb to using whatever we can get our hands on. Today, many options are available including that of hiring an expert to freight and ship our furniture for us.
