Though you live in and use your whole house, your living room probably gets more use by more people than the rest of your house. Your living room may consist of large leather couches with cup holders and individual recliners. Your living room may be home to fragile antique furniture passed down from your great-great grandmother. Maybe you and your spouse sat on every single couch at the store, and you continue to sit on the one you purchased, drinking wine and laughing, playing board games and watching TV with your favorite people. Wherever your living room lies on the grand spectrum of style and age, if you are getting ready to move to a new home, you probably want insight on how to ship a living room set.

Often it is easiest to pack belongings in moving boxes using newspaper, plastic bags, or bubble wrap to secure them. However, the large items in your living room require a different method. Below are two basic methods that we use to get your living room from one place to another.

Blanket Wrapping Blanket wrapping is the process of using padded blankets to wrap large items. The use of blankets help to save costs since making a giant crate would be very expensive. You can move your living room set on a truck that you drive, or you can hire a professional moving company to take care of the move for you. If you are going from one city to another city a company with experience may be your best bet. You may be able to load a blanket wrap truck in your origin city, but what experienced individuals will you have to assist you with the unloading.  Have you considered gas prices and hotel stays in your effort to save money?  What is the cost of renting a truck?

Freight Shipping Freight Shipping is almost like sending small packages because your large items are wrapped and then transported either across the country or around the world. You can have your furniture wrapped and palletized and shipped via freight. Consider the cost of curb side delivery versus inside white glove delivery. Are there delicate or valuable items that may need a custom built crate? Look for a company that has experience with crate building and preparing custom built shipping crates.
