Packing Matters: How to Ship Fragile or Valuable Items

packing_and_crating_houstonShipping fragile or valuable items can be very intimidating for both the sender and the receiver. Sending very delicate objects can be very stressful because you fear what might happen to it.

The good news is that when you know how to ship fragile or valuable items properly, the stress and fear dissipate.

Choosing the Proper Container

The first step in transporting a valuable or fragile object is finding the proper box or crate. Standard  boxes and  crates might work if they have both enough room for the item and the packing materials.  They need to be  small enough that the item will not move around during the transportation process. The box or crate should be snug around your item, to prevent movement.

The second question for your shipping container should be what it is made of. If the item  is fragile, sturdy construction, with plywood can help prevent damage to the item from other items. While you may label items as fragile, not all shipping companies will be able to ensure that no other items are stacked on your shipping container, potentially damaging the contents. A container with rigid sides helps protect your item.

Choose the Right Packing Material

From bubble wrap around fragile vases to packing peanuts, the materials you place around your valuables can be as important as the box or crate that you use.
