Here are a few of the packing materials that are used when packing fragile or delicate items. Custom crates and custom boxes are discussed in other blogs. If you need to pack and ship items, be sure to use sturdy shipping boxes. Pack and send just about anything if you use the proper packing materials.
Bubble Wrap
Perhaps the greatest invention of the 20th century, bubble wrap is the absolute standard in packing. You can use it to protect most fragile items and, for items with recesses or curvatures like bowls and cups, use it to fill any gaps in items that may need extra support.
Styrofoam
Styrofoam packing peanuts are a time-honored packing material that are most commonly used to create protective linings around goods that are being shipped -- even items that are, themselves, wrapped in bubble wrap.
Pallets
When shipping larger items or large stacks of items, pallets are the way to go. Though the items must be properly secured to the pallet, it allows cargo handlers to easily move and store your items without them up-ending, and keeps them stationary on the truck. When shipping internationally, however, it is important that you use heat treated wood for your pallets, as international law requires, due to the possible spread of termites and other pests which can sometimes be found on untreated wood.
When packing in Houston in preparation for a shipment, you need to be sure you are using the proper materials for the items you are packing and the distance you are sending them. You can have your delicate items professionally packed, or you can purchase the packing materials and pack your boxes on your own.
