Are you planning to move to Madagascar? Moving can be can be stressful, especially if you are moving from a long distance. You may feel that it is easier to throw all your things away and start fresh in your new home in Madagascar.

However, if you are feeling attached to some of your household items or if any of your furniture holds sentimental value, don't get discouraged. The following list items are prohibited to ship to Madagascar.

  • Articles that violate the copyright laws.
  • Preserved sardines, if they weigh more than 1 kilogram.
  • Valuable articles such as the following: coins, banknotes, currency notes (paper money), securities payable to bearer, traveler's checks, platinum, gold or silver (both manufactured and non-manufactured), precious stones, and jewelery.
  • Compound medicines not appearing in an official pharmacopoeia.
  • Playing cards.
  • All preserved fish, vegetables, and plums UNLESS each item bears a stamp of origin on their receptacle or container.
  • Any products bearing false indications of origin.
  • Radioactive materials.
  • Saccharine.
  • Tobacco sauce (Praiss).

Any of these items on the prohibited list are always illegal to ship to Madagascar.

There are additional items that are restricted from shipping to Madagascar. This means that before you ship an item that is on the restricted list, you will need a permit from the Madagascar government.

 

The following items listed are restricted from shipping to Madagascar:

  • Arms and ammunition: Whether for military or sporting use, Arms and ammunition are only admitted under a certified permit issued by local authorities in Madagascar.
  • Consignments of watches: Consignment watches are admitted only in Priority Mail International parcels. The packaging of which consist of strong metal boxes or cases made of wood.
