It's obvious that shipping internationally is not as simple as mailing a letter in your own country, but the rules are not as clear. International shipping to Ukraine comes with many prohibitions and restrictions, but with careful planning and the information below, it's a breeze!

According to USPS, Ukraine prohibits the shipping of the following items:

  • Agricultural products.
  • Articles of cultural value (works of art, collectors' pieces, and antiques).
  • Any type of currency, precious metal, or valuable item.
  • Medications and other medicinal products.
  • Passports and personal IDs.
  • Prescription narcotics and psychotropic drugs.
  • Software and technical devices manufactured or altered for the purpose of communicating secret information to the recipient.
  • Tobacco products and all its substitutes.

The restrictions are much more lengthy and are found here, but here are some basic guidelines to start with:

  • Make sure any mailed foodstuffs adhere to the proper packaging, sanitary, and sizing requirements.
  • Procure prior authorization from the Ukrainian government before shipping radios and mobile telephones.
  • Prescription medication for individuals is permitted only in necessary quantities for a full course of treatment and the Ukrainian Ministry must approve the dosage.
  • Funerals urns are only allowed with the proper documentation.
  • Used goods such as clothes and shoes are only permitted with proof of fumigation.

Please also make sure you are familiar with all the pricing, insurance, and return options so that you can prepare for any situation.

Ukraine's history and culture is as deep and detailed as its shipping guidelines. Don't believe me? See for yourself:

  • The entire country of Ukraine is a flat plain.
  • Ukraine contains around 5% of the world's mineral resources.
  • The average life expectancy for a Ukrainian is 65 years.
  • Ukraine has extremely fertile black earth soils.
  • In Europe, the police solve 30-40% of crimes, in Ukraine – 90%. This unnaturally good statistics is the result of the Ukrainian policemen's reluctance to record “hopeless” cases (like thefts of mobile phones) and knock confessions out of suspects.
  • Ukraine has the world’s largest reserves of manganese ore – 2.3 billion tons or about 11% of all deposits of the world.
  • One of Ukraine's delicacies, Chicken Kiev, is named after the country's own capital, Kiev.
  • Animals native to Ukraine include hamsters, otters, beavers, and gophers.
