Taiwan's Restrictions

Like most countries, Taiwan has several items that should not be shipped within its borders because they are prohibited by the government. According to the USPS website, these include:

  • Prepared tobacco products, including cigarettes and cigars
  • Certain currency items, specifically coins that are more than 100 years old and banknotes known as "new Taiwan dollars"
  • Sweeteners, including but not limited to sugar, molasses, and saccharine
  • Tea concentrates, essences, or extracts
  • Radioactive materials

Other Restrictions

All imported items are required to have a license. The only exceptions are gifts for personal or family use that cost less than $1,000 and books that cost less than $1,000. Mail that contains items that could have a duty assessed must be clearly labeled. Taiwan also prefers that, when possible, shipments bear mailing labels with complete addresses in Chinese as well as English.
