As an interior decorator, you put a lot of effort into each room that you design.  Your inspiration can come from anywhere.  You work from the needs of the clients:  do they have something in particular that they want?  Something that they're looking for in the design of their room?  What have they described to you?  Sometimes, they don't have any idea what they want, just a vague idea that what they currently have isn't working--and that's when your creativity really shines through.

Sometimes, you walk into a room, you get a stroke of inspiration based on one of the features of the room:  a fireplace, or a picture window, or an archway.  Maybe you're working around existing furniture in the room, or designing the room based on a customer's favorite item in the room.

Or maybe you're very, very lucky, and you get to start from scratch:  to design the entire room based on your vision for it.

That's where inspiration comes in.  As an interior decorator, you're always looking for opportunities to put together a room.  You attend auctions, estate sales, and sales of all sorts.  You wander through thrift stores, check out new and interesting mom-and-pop shops, and pay attention to all of the new items in that store in the mall that no one ever actually buys anything in, even though they wander through it all the time.  You're always looking for your next idea; and sometimes, you find an item that you can't pass up.

Great deal?  Check.  Perfect for a room that you're already designing  Check.  Perfect for a room that you're designing in your head, even though you don't actually have the space to put it in yet?  Check, check, and check.  Now...if you just had a way to get that item home.

As an interior decorator or interior designer, you have some unique freight receiving needs.  Sometimes, you need the item to be delivered directly into the room in question and placed in its spot by a team of competent movers.  Other times, you need to have it delivered curbside so that you can move it in yourself.

When you're choosing a transportation company, you want someone that you can build a relationship with--someone you can trust with your specific shipping needs.  Look for a company who:

  • Has the experience to unpack your item for you and inspect it.

  • Offers delivery options that include curbside and in-home (or office) delivery.

  • Is reliable.

  • Has experience shipping a wide variety of items.  You never know what specific item will strike your fancy and make you decide to design a room around it, and you'll need a shipping company that can handle whatever the item may be.

  • Has handled both large and small items.

  • Knows how to properly pack and handle artwork.

  • Know how to ship for interior designers

  • Knows how to receive furniture for interior designers
