Savvy antiques shoppers know that one of the best places to get their hands on valuable antiques for low prices is at an estate sale. Most of the time, at an estate sale, everyone is motivated to see the items move. Family members have already been through all the furniture and other items. They've selected what they want--so whatever is left over, they want to sell as easily as possible. That means that there are some real deals to be had at estate sales across the country.
It also means that the responsibility for transporting most items purchased at private estate sales rests with the new owner. The hosts of the estate sale already have more than enough on their shoulders; they don't have time to arrange for shipping and delivery. Checking out estate sales yourself? You'll be pleased to know that shipping items from estate sales doesn't have to be difficult.
You may need help with estate packing, estate moving & estate shipping.
First, determine what it is that you're going to be shipping. For example, artwork may need to be specially packaged, ideally in custom-constructed crates that will provide the maximum possible protection. China, knickknacks, and other delicate items will need to be wrapped individually in packing material that will cushion them appropriately during transport. The box should have packing material added to fill it completely. Once the box has been sealed the top of the box should be pressed down on gently to ensure that nothing moves around inside. If the box top moves when pressure is applied, it will need to be opened and repacked to ensure that every item in the box is protected.
Shipping larger items? Large items (or larger shipments of boxes of small items) can be placed on a pallet. Items should not hang over the edges of the pallet. Once they've been placed, the pallet should be wrapped from bottom to top with stretch wrap that is specifically designed for shipping purposes.
Next, you'll want to find a shipping company that is experienced in moving the items that you've purchased. Choose a company that has a wide range of experience and can move a variety of different items, or one that specializes in the items that you've purchased. Work with your shipping company to ensure that you're following all of their recommendations for shipping, packaging, and moving materials. By selecting an experienced company, you know that your items are in the best possible hands.
