The painting, created in 1912, was heavily influenced by Cubism, and shows a form moving down a staircase, almost like many still frames placed on top of one another. The form is also abstracted into shapes.
Duchamp also did many sculptures. He coined the term "readymades" to describe his works that were made from existing objects. One of his famous readymades, Fountain, is in fact just a urinal turned on its side, with a tongue in cheek commentary about the wealthy.
