If you had a collection of paintings, or even one painting from the Abstract Expressionist painter, Mark Rothko, you would want to be extremely careful if you ever had to move it. Hiring a professional shipping company that does custom crate building is essential to moving valuable art. A custom crate will be built to the exact specifications for your valuable painting. You do not want your painting to move around inside the crate during shipping. You can ask that a reusable crate be built, so that you can ship the same painting more than one time for the same crate building charges. Shipping crates that are will built will protect your artwork.

Mark Rothko was born in current day Latvia in 1903. His family moved to Portland, Oregon in 1913 when they feared he and his brothers would be drafted into the Russian Imperial Army. Although Rothko attended Yale for a few years, he dropped out and began taking art classes at Parsons New School for Design. It was there he brushed shoulders with painters Arshile Gorky and Max Weber.

As a Russian Jew, painting became an important religious expression for Rothko. At the beginning of his career, Rothko painted representational pieces. However, his style developed into his more well-known color field paintings.

A Mark Rothko painting titled, Orange, Red, and Yellow, sold in an auction at Christie's for $87 million in 2014. Surely, a painting like this would need to be moved with the most care and precision possible.

When looking for a custom crate builder in Houston or throughout the United States, search for a company that  has crated and shipped valuable artwork. Each type of artwork will need to be individually analyzed to determine the most efficient way to crate it. Statues may need to be blocked and braced. Oil paintngs will need to be measured to their exact dimensions. Even though you do not own a  Rothko, you need to make sure that your artwork is crated correctly.
