If you are considering doing international shipping to Ireland, there are some regulations you must know and follow. There are a number of prohibited items. A few are mentioned here, but you should check the  USPS website for a complete list.

Some of the items are common sense. Do not send any arms, weapons, human remains, plants, animals, fireworks, or coins minted in a foreign country. They do, however, allow gold and silver. There are some interesting oddities as to what is allowed. Typewriter carbon paper must be declared on customs declarations as “Typewriter carbon paper coated with wax and containing no oxidizable or fatty substances.” Certain items such as fruits, vegetables, and pharmaceuticals are subject to special regulations. For example, "Circulars or advertisements relating to the prevention or treatment of venereal disease must be addressed to physicians or pharmacists."  This, of course, is not the complete list.

Not only do you have to send the correct items, you have to address the packages correctly as well. A parcel may be sent to a street address or a post office. A phone number is optional with the street address, but required when sending the parcel to a post office. The name of the Irish county must be part of the address. While you might be familiar with Cork or Dublin, there are many other counties with interesting names like Sligo, Offaly, or Tipperary.  And then there is the longest name in Ireland: Muckanaghederdauhaulia. Take a deep breath and be sure to get your spelling correct if you are shipping there.
