Holiday Shipping Tips from Houston Company

Posted on Tue, Dec 11, 2012

Christmas and Kwanza are now getting quite close, and getting all those gifts to family worldwide is becoming slightly more tedious. No one enjoys spending a fortune to get the gifts to their families, which is why the hunt for less expensive shipping costs is beginning.

If you are one of the many wanting to find inexpensive shipping costs, you will be happy to know that it's actually possible and there are many ways you can minimize the amount you spend this holiday season.

One of the best ways you can greatly reduce the amount you spend for shipping is combining packages. If you have several family members in one local area that you're shipping gifts to, ship them all to one address location. By doing this you are reducing the number of packages being sent out, meaning less expensive shipping charges. This is also a great way to ensure that your family is spending a little quality time together.

We do recommend shipping packages to a business address when it is permissible. This is due to an increase in the number of thieves following trucks around to residences that are delivering holiday gifts. TV stations nationwide are reporting thieves that simply go to residential doorsteps and pick up the gifts right after the delivery truck has dropped off the packages.

Houston Company recommends that you should consider is shipping early.

By shipping early you won't have to pay the added costs for expedited shipping to ensure the packages get there in time. Many people are known to wait until the last minute, but the holidays are the worst time that you could do this. It is very disappointing to have shopped for wrapped, and shipped your gifts only to have them arrive after Christmas or Kwanza.

Ground shipping is usually the least expensive way to ship.  For packages valued at more than $500.00 you will need to ask to have the package signed for at the destination. This way you can track your package and see when and who signed for your package.

When you are packing your boxes for shipping, please remember that shipping charges are based on both size and weight. While that holiday sweater may look beautiful placed inside a box with lots of tissue paper, the size of the box alone may add to your shipping costs.

If you are shipping holiday gifts overseas, you will need to remember to add in time for customs clearance. Items such as perfumes, colognes and nail polish should not be sent.

When shipping overseas, you need to remember to add a Commercial Invoice to your shipment.  You can prepare this yourself or pay a company to prepare this for you. Any individual item valued for more than $2500 will need to have additional paperwork prepared.

The holiday season is a time of year you want to enjoy as much as possible. The last thing you want to worry about is your family not receiving their gifts. If you do not have time to wrap and send gifts on your own, consider taking your hand chosen gifts to a professional gift-wrapping, packing  and shipping company.

Make this a holiday season you enjoy to the fullest and have  a commercial company help you relieve all that gift shipping stress. They can do everything possible to get your packages arrive on time and do it at a better price then your usual postal services. They can evaluate which shipping service is best for your particular package based on the size, weight and value of your shipment.
