When you want to move a server and or server rack you have a few options. You can either arrange for blanket move, or you can ship the servers and racks via freight.
In the article below, we will outline the details of both options.
Blanket Wrap Move
If the servers are not secure in the rack, then the shipper needs to take the servers out of the rack. For a blanket wrap move, the servers will then need to be wrapped with moving pads or moving blankets.
The server racks will separately get secured to the side of the truck, with moving pads or moving blankets surrounding the server rack. If the servers are secure in the server rack, the servers can be left inside. The rack will then get secured to the inside of the moving truck.
The server rack will be will be surrounded with moving pads.
Shipping Server via Freight
If you would like to ship the server via freight, you can crate both the server and the rack. If you choose to crate the servers, the servers should have plastic wrapped around them and then be protected with 2 inches of Styrofoam on all sides. If you crate the server rack, the rack should have 1” of Styrofoam around the rack on all sides.
You also have the option of palletizing the server, bracing the server with 1 x 4’s and wrapping the pallet with cardboard. Under this option, the servers would still be crated.
