Estate Shipping and Moving Part 1 of 2

Posted on Fri, Aug 22, 2014

Estate moving occurs at one of the most stressful time in your life. Not only have you lost a loved one, there are often time and money constraints associated with disbursing the possessions.

While some of the items may be thrown away or donated to a local charity, there will be many items that you will want to save. Some may go to a relative that lives in town, while other items will need to be moved or shipped to a new city. Often times the different city may be outside of the United States. Here are few things to consider when you are shipping an estate.
When do you want to ship the items?
While family members are discussing what items that each family member would like to receive, it may be less expensive to move everything into a storage unit, rather than continue to pay rent on an apartment. If may also give you time to fix up a house that you are getting ready to sell. Once you have determined what each family member would like, a shipping company can ship the smaller items. A moving company will be able to move the larger pieces of furniture.

Look for a company that can offer both shipping and moving, as sometimes it will be less expensive to freight a small amount of furniture and other items verses moving a small amount of furniture.
If you are moving the items and need international shipping, look for a company that has experience shipping internationally. Many countries have items that are restricted or prohibited. There is also heat treated wood that my need to be used for international shipments, and international paperwork that will need to travel with your shipment.
