International shipping to China has its own specific rules and regulations that need to be followed. Every country has their own prohibitions and regulations for what may or may not be shipped there. Be sure to pay close attention when shipping internationally so that you can ship your items successfully.
Prohibited Items:
The following items are forbidden from being shipped to China.
• Any type of arms, ammunition, or weapons.
• Anything in hermetically sealed, nontransparent containers.
• Chinese currency.
• Coins, banknotes, travelers' checks, and securities made payable to the bearer.
• Manufactured and not manufactured gold, silver and platinum.
• Precious stones, jewelry, or other valuables unless insured.
• Manuscripts, written materials, gramophone records, printed materials, photographic negatives, video tapes, audio tapes, etc. which may cause political, social, economic, or moral problems in China.
• Meat and meat products.
• Perishable infectious biological substances.
• Radioactive materials.
• Radio receivers, transmitters, receivers, walkie-talkies and parts to any of the above.
• Used clothing and bedding.
• Wrist-watches, cameras, TVs, radios, bicycles, ventilators, and sewing machines.
Restrictions:
The following are specific restrictions that also need to be followed when shipping to China.
• Personal items can only be imported when they are intended for personal use and need to be in reasonable quantities.
• Each shipment's value cannot be more than 100 Yuan.
• Each family's shipments cannot be valued at more than 800 Yuan total per year.
• If a request is made to Customs, one pocket electronic calculator may be shipped per year.
• 5 magnetic tapes can be shipped per year.
• 10 meters (10 1/4 yards) of Cotton or synthetic cloth (with a width of no more than 130 centimeters or 50 inches) per year.
• Medication or components of Chinese medicine (40 Yuan worth) per year.
• No more than 100 stamps.
Additional Considerations:
Any items containing powders, liquids, lithium batteries, or lithium cells cannot be transported by air in China. Once they arrive via International Air, they will be switched to ground transportation. So when calculating shipping times, keep this in mind.
