Situated in Southwestern Europe’s Iberian Peninsula is the Kingdom of Spain. It is home to one heck of a World Cup futball squad, amazing foods, fabulous wines and the unmistakable silhouette of the Pyrenees mountain range. But don’t try to ship certain products there. Otherwise, you may just run afoul of their customs officials.

So which products are forbidden or restricted when it comes to international shipping to Spain? The list of forbidden items includes:
• Food Shaped Rubber Erasers
• Meat Byproducts and Meats
• Milk Byproducts and Milk
• Weapons and Explosives
• All Items Made in Iran
• Illegal Drugs and Medicines
• Honey
Spain’s list of restricted items is much longer and far more complicated. It includes products like the following:
• Solid Wood Packing Materials and Product Samples
• Veterinary Supplies (e.g. meds, foods and surgical tools)
• Plastic Kitchenware from Hong Kong and China
• Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco Products
• Personal Effects (e.g. prescription meds)
• Medical Instruments and Machine Parts
• Vitamins and Nutritional Supplements
• Shoes, Underwear and Textiles
• Repaired and Returned Items
• Jewelry and Cosmetics
• Plants and Seeds
Some of the products on the list, like underwear and other apparel items, require the shipper to obtain a Declaration of Conformity from the European Union. Other items, like medical instruments, must also be accompanied by additional forms. The list of additional forms includes, but is not constrained to numbered registration documents and letters explaining what the product will be used for once it arrives in Spain.
In addition, international shippers must be aware of Spain’s other rules and regulations involving items like treaties, fees and free trade zones. For instance, items being stored in free zones are typically not subject to import fees. A few of the free zones currently recognized by Spain’s government are Portugal, Italy, Germany, Ireland and Greece.
